CD Writer Drive

I had to go into PC World on Tottenham Court Road today to buy an ethernet cable for my flatmate. Whilst I was there I had a look at CD writer drives, and noticed how cheap they are now. The cheapest was only £29.99, which seems pretty good, so I bought it.

Back home, it took me a while to work out how to install it in computer. Mostly this was spent prising the little plastic bit free from one of the drive slots. Luckily, I didn’t have to fiddle around with jumper settings, as it was already set on slave and the ribbon cable I plugged into the drive has ’slave’ handily written on it, so I figured that it would be okay.

Once powered up, everything worked fine. Windows XP recognised the drive, and installed all the drivers for it without even asking for a CD. So I loaded up Windows Media Player, selected some tracks, put in a blank CD (after figuring out which way up it goes) and away it went. 10 mins later I had a shiny new CD with 22 tracks (80 mins) of music on it, which works fine on my CD player!

I’m impressed. Expected it to be a lot more complicated! Technology thsese days…
