Fat Idol

So, the fat ugly one won Pop Idol… [Note: this wasn't my politest post...]

The problem with Pop Idol was that the contestants were all so similar, singing the same sickly ballards and ‘big numbers’ in tune with reasonable competence, that there was no one who stood out. They didn’t have any character, instead they’re just singing machines, dressed-up jukeboxes… Michelle won because she stood out. And she stood out coz she’s fat and ugly.

One of the things that annoys me about Pop Idol is the way that they’re all in awe of the programme, the studio, the judges, the production company. ‘Thankyou this’ and ‘thankyou that’ and ‘this has been a life-changing experience’. That’s why Alex Parks was a breath of fresh air - she had a nonchalant attitude and a quiet ‘why am I here?’ expression. She proved the Big Brother rule that the best strategy for winning is not really caring…
