Fuel Cell Buses Hit The Road

Three new hydrogen-powered buses hit the roads of London today, joining route 25 (Oxford Circus to Ilford). The buses use liquid hydrogen gas and a fuel cell for power, making them very clean, with steam as the only emission.

I used to get the number 25 to school every day, with it usually being crammed full with loads of other kids and workers. It will be interesting to see how the buses cope and what the passengers think.

At the moment the buses cost £750,000 each (or a million according to BBC news this morning), but the price would apparently come down if they went into bigger production. Seems like it could be a great idea.
