MyDoom Gloom

My PC caught the MyDoom virus a few days ago. Actually, I was to blame as I opened the attachment. It was a pretty convincing looking bounce message, but I was suspicious so I replied to the message asking the author to explain what it was. I got a one-line reply with some explanation about being a multi-part-mime attachment, or some such gobbledegook. Was still a bit suspicious, but didn’t think that a .zip could be executable - thought it was simply compressed. So I opened it and hey presto was infected!

Luckily, my AVG anti-virus software sorted it out pretty quickly, though I still get messages warning that the virus still exists within system restore folders, and can’t seem to wipe these.

The worst thing is that my e-mail address now receives around 10 copies of the virus via e-mail every day, from random addresses, which means deleting messages constantly.
