Sia Gig, Valentine's Night @ Cargo

The time has come for me to tell my Valentines Day story...

I didn't really have anything planned for it, expecting all my flatmates to be away for the weekend with friends or partners, and so was going to either stay in or go to a random bar. Luckily I was offered a pair of tickets to see Sia at Cargo by a promotions company instead. The tickets were posted over and about 15 phone calls later I managed to find someone to go with me (a friend from my course).

The venue is really nice, and was full of attractive, trendy-looking people. Quite randomly, we bumped into two people we knew from uni, which was odd. The gig itself was pretty good. I knew of Sia from having seen her in a BBC London years and years ago around the time of her Taken For Granted release. However, she's been out of the scene for a while (had a breakdown, I'm told), and this appearance ties in with her new single release. This might explain why Sia was positively brimming with excitement and energy onstage, bouncing up and down and grinning from ear to ear - I've never seen anyone so pleased to perform! She gave a good performance, backed up by a good band and backing singer, delivering a mixture of new and old songs. A suprise treat came halfway though when cardboard glasses, similiar to the old red-green 3D glasses, were given out to the audience. But when you put these on, you didn't get a dodgy 3D effect, but instead all of the fairy lights, which had been strategically placed around the stage, glowed with tiny hearts. It was magic, and you could just hear the wooing from the audience...

After the set, DJ Nikki Cheeks took the stage, followed by hip hop band Platinum Pied Pipers, who gave a dodgy performance.

The highlight of my night though was meeting Fiona, a girl from Uni who recognised me from the radio work. She's lovely...
