My Dad Wants To Live In A Pod
Quite a few newspapers picked up on Macin Panpuch’s ‘pod’ house design, exhibited recently at the Future House London exhibition. It’s a spherical, energy-efficient home, designed to float on water, in rivers like the Thames.
I didn’t go to the exhibition, but my Dad did, and he wants to live in one! As he explains, he’s been dreaming for a while of upping sticks and moving into a boat/yurt/moveable home, and so the pod house might be the ‘best of all worlds’ for him.
When I read the story in the newspaper last week, I was a bit sceptical. Some obvious questions that come to mind are how you moor the thing (especially on a tidal river), how you secure it, and whether you’d ever get permission to actually moor the thing. Is it, I wonder, just a wacky idea, or could it actually be realised?
