It was reported last week that a new computer system was delaying the processing of student loans. This is pretty scary news for students, who rely on the loans to pay their rent and get them through the year.
The student loans applications process was changed this year so that all the application forms were the same nationally (they used to differ by LEA). The forms were actually a bit simpler to fill in, with some basic colour coding to help you get through it (though you still needed another booklet to tell you how to fill in the form, and my girlfriend still got it wrong). The online application process was meant to be in place by August, but when I checked it was behind schedule and not yet working.
My form was sent in well after the deadline for when they guarantee the loan for the first day of term (though this news renders that guarantee pointless), so I hope they manage to sort stuff out.
