Bus Shelters That Sing Carols To You
The daft story of the day is the introduction of 10 ‘homely’ bus shelters for Christmas shoppers, with heating, interactive motion-sensor elements, and speakers that play out Christmas carols (just in case you haven’t had enough of the Christmas fever already).
An idea this daft could only be the work of a PR team desperate for some publicity, and so this is a scheme that has been cooked up by British Gas. Their head of marketing openly admits in their press release that ‘this is a media first and we’re very excited about the [media] effect and impact the bus shelters will have’.
The joke though is that they’re creating as ‘6 sheet (4 motion technology) designed to recreate a fireplace look with moving flames’, so it will look like a gas (or perhaps coal) fire, but presumably the heaters will be electric. Although admittedly gas companies ‘provide’ electricity and vice versa in today’s crazy world.
Anyway, if I see one I’ll try and discover if it’s actually any good, and whether it really is ‘an innovative and impactful way to demonstrate British Gas’ role in keeping Britain’s homes warm during the winter’
