For once, parliament has passed a law that is actually genuinely popular, by banning smoking. Whilst there are clearly lots of smokers who probably aren’t happy about it, the majority of non-smokers are looking forward to the day when we can go out the pub and come home not smelling of cigarettes.
From many of the interviews I watched on TV, even many pub landlords ended up in favour of the ban, suggesting that many of their customers would appreciate it. They certainly didn’t want the ‘compromise’ ban that would have seen pubs not serving food being exempt.
This is on top of the recent legislative change which makes it easier for pubs to continue serving past 11PM. Pub culture in England can only grow stronger. Now to find a good local…

Actually honey, pretty much all of teh smokers have been in agreement that it’s a good thing. Most people who smoke are in favour of it, as they realise it’s highly antisocial, and they wouldn’t want other people to have to eat or drink in their smoke any more than they’d want to dance in other people’s urine or whatever/. Their only bone of contention seems to be clubs…

I hope this law is ignored like Prohibition was in America in the 1920′s. The hypochondria and prissy intolerance of antismokers ought not to be encouraged. Hitler instituted the first smoking ban and we are coming round to his way of thinking again.
