The Mighty Boosh

I’ve really been enjoying watching The Mighty Boosh on BBC Three. It’s an oddball sort of comedy: weird without being wacky, silly without being stupid. There’s a sort of child-like quality to it, in the way that the characters act naively and calmly to odd occurances. Much of it feels like watching a dream sequence, where everything gets muddled yet still somehow makes sense at the time. It’s good, funny, intriguing stuff, very different from most other comedy shows. I’d like to track down series one, and the radio series.

Am also slowly getting into The IT Crowd, which started off a bit dull and obvious, but is slowly improving. Episode 4, which featured Noel Fielding from the Mighty Boosh as cheerful goth ‘Richmond’, was particualarly good.

If you can, try to listen to the radio series before you watch television series 1. A lot of the jokes are the same, but better executed on the radio series. It’s also much more improvisational; you can hear them trying to make each other laugh which is entertaining.

  2. Here’s a more up-to-date Boosh site.

  3. Radio series does sound good – will try to track that down too…
