Voting in the local elections 2006
Tonight I did my bit and cast my vote in the 2006 local elections by filling in my postal ballot. I live in the Thurlow Park ward of Lambeth, where the candidates (Word doc) consist of three Labour, Conservative and Lib Dem members, plus a Green Party candidate and a parent running under the Local Education Action by Parents (LEAP) banner.
To make my mind up, I tapped a few things into Google and quickly turned up the Election Memory, which has put up all of the local party manifestos and invites comments on each of the paragraphs. There’s also space to ‘tell candidates your priorities’ at a ward level.
The results from my ward in the 2002 local elections seem to be an easy victory for the three Conservative candidates, so I don’t hold out much hope for that changing. Still, I cast my votes for the Green Party candidate (am generally impressed by their policies), the LEAP candidate (don’t know much about these guys but I like supporting local groups) and one of the Lib Dems (as I’m not voting Labour or tories).
Job done. That’s my fifteen minutes of democracy over.
