Catchup post – 500th entry

Crikey, it’s been a while since I’ve written much here. In fact, it seems to me to be quiet generally in the blogosphere at the moment. My reasons for not having posted much are that I’ve been busy at work, and that it’s so hot that it’s too uncomfortable to spend much time on the computer at home.

Some things I’ve wanted to write about, but haven’t found time to yet, are a work-related trip to a ‘Museums and the Web’ conference in Leicester and my launching of a re-designed Dana Centre website, a project I’ve been working on for a while.

Outside of work, I’ve been generally doing boring stuff like finally registering with a dentists, swapping broadband providers, trying to make my mobile phone bill less of a rip-off, and helping Fiona contemplate her career path.

Online, I’ve been playing with preloadr, a browser-based image-editing tool built for Flickr, and have been looking for podcasts to download to my new iPod Nano, which I recently won.

One conversation that’s kicked off on the blogs today is over the proposed restructuring of the BBC new media departments. Ex-BBC employee Tom Coates has kicked it off with a provocative (but pretty perceptive) post called Who’s afraid of Ashley Highfield?. Another ex-employee, Euan Semple, picked it up with Tom Coates on Ashley Highfield. Picture editor eyedropper.co.uk has posted thoughts too: BBC chart… and The (dis)functional BBC Media Family. There’s also discussion on this Flickr photo. I don’t know quite what to make of the proposed changed, but I can sense that people are beginning to vent frustrations at the lack of public progress from the BBC on some of their flagship new media vessels.

Finally, my blog software tells me that this is my 500th post…
