Excellent post! I'm 23 and recently purchased a pair of Heelys from a shoe store in the mall called "Journeys". They took a couple of minutes to learn, but heeling became instinct. I felt myself adapting to them and realizing, at the same time, how superior Heeling was to walking. My first guess was that the frictionless continuation of the bodies momentum. Instead of the energy required to take 10 steps, a human can instead launch into a heel, and there is no further impact to their skeletal system after that intial heel. (Which would be found in running or walking, each time the foot lands on the ground.) Going down heel is even better!

I enjoyed reading your post. Glad I came across it. I am 37 and am thinking of buying a pair for myself. They look absolutely fabulously fun!! I miss those days of "rolling" around a wooden roller ring. Now I can "glide" through Walmart. Over 30 isn't dead; just responsible for the hospital bills.

Interesting post, especially the imaginary dinosaur!

I don't think Heelys will catch on for anyone over (say) 30 - they look too daft for grownups and the risk of seriously crippling yourself in a fall gets high as you start to get older..... 8-)
