I’m excited by the movie posters around town for The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D. This is a fantastic film (which I have on DVD), and the chance to go and see it in cinema again is always welcomed. And whilst usually 3D films (mostly of the IMAX variety) seem a bit pointless and gimmicky, I’m guessing (hoping) that this is a film that will really benefit.
The only thing I can’t quite work out is how they’ve managed to convert it to 3D. With CGI films, it’s relatively easy to re-render the whole film from the two camera angles, but the Nightmare Before Christmas is a stop-motion film (made with models and the like). I guess it’s been achieved by painstakingly going through each frame and doing the equivilent of Photoshopping some of the elements around in order to create a second camera position and the illusion of depth. If so, that’s a hell of a lot of work.
I’m hoping to go and see it within the next few weeks. If you’ve seen it, leave a comment below and let me know what you thought of it!
