Flat update

At the risk of boring you senseless, or over-apologising for my lack of more considered posts, I thought I'd do a quick update on my flat-buying adventure/saga/ordeal.

Good news: We've had an offer accepted on a flat. Bad news: we didn't get any reduction in the asking price as there was plenty of competition. Good news: have appointed a conveyancer, and started mortgage application process. Bad news: interest rates keep going up.

I've stopped reading all the stories in newspapers about how we're just to have a house price crash, and how that will 'serve all the youngsters gambling on borrowing huge amounts of money right'. It's a home, I'll be able to afford the mortgage (although it'll be a little tight), and you have to take the risk at some point.

I've no idea how long it'll take before we're moving in, but hopefully it won't be more than a couple of months... Wish me luck!

The one thing we've learnt quickly in this process has been how to say no - to rubbish flats, to aggressive mortgage brokers, and to life insurance pushers (£186 a month? No thanks).
