Introducing… another blog
Hello. This is a quick plug for another blog I’ve recently launched. It’s called ‘Great Exhibitions‘, and it’s basically for reviews of museum exhibitions (and a bit of ‘news’ too). I’ve started getting more interested in exhibition design - partly just because I work in a museum and like visiting exhibitions, but also as part of a more general interest and ongoing research into the design of ‘experiences’ within ’spaces’, as I’ve mentioned previously. I didn’t want to clog up this blog with loads of exhibition reviews though, so they’re all going to be posted on this new blog.
I also realised, in the course of setting up the blog, that there’s very little in the way of museum exhibition reviews online, or in the media. Sure, the big art exhibitions get talked about in the press, and some of the blockbuster exhibitions from the major museums, but there’s not a lot in the way of detailed, critical analysis. I suspect that this might because museum exhibitions aren’t considered a ‘form’ in the same way that films, books, plays and video games are. There’s also less of a sense of a group of people who enjoy regularly ‘going to exhibitions’ in the way that you get habitual cinemagoers, theatre snobs and hardcore games players.
Still, even if the audience for museum exhibition reviews is small, I think it’s worth producing anyway, perhaps for the sake of museum professionals as much as for a general audience.
As I don’t get the chance the visit all museum exhibitions, especially those outside London, I’m going to be inviting co-authors to participate in the blog. If you’re interested, let me know - frankie@frankieroberto.com.
