Bye bye London, Hello Manchester
If you follow my Twitter stream, you’ll know that over the last month or so, I’ve been preparing to leave London, and my job as a Web Producer the Science Museum, to move up north to Manchester, where I’ll shortly be starting as an Experience Designer for Rattle Reseach.
Well, now that I’ve actually done all the packing, loading, driving, unloading and unpacking (mostly), I can finally get round to writing this blog post!
Deciding to leave London was a real wrench of a decision. I’ve lived in London since I was five years old, in the East, North and South of the city, and it’s definitely somewhere that’s felt like home. That said, rents have forced me to live further out of the city, and the resultant commutes and bus trips meant I wasn’t really making the most of living in the capital. So, my partner Fiona and I got to the point of either wanting to move back further towards central London again, or move to a different city entirely. This thinking happened to co-incide with the job opportunity with Rattle, and so after a bit of consideration, we decided to take the plunge and make the move. A few hasty weekends of flat hunting later, and here we are, in a swish flat in the middle of town.
I’ll miss all my colleagues from the Science Museum of course. The three years I spent working there post University were pretty eventful, covering all manner of projects from a redesign of the main website, the ever-popular Launchball, and more recently an Object Wiki which looks set to disrupt the way that the museum traditionally does ‘object digitisation’.
I’m looking forward to my new role though, and the challenges that it’ll bring (working for clients!). For now I have a week off between jobs, in which time I’m exploring Manchester, figuring out where to do my shopping and so on. I must admit I haven’t gotten my head around the city yet, but then being able to get lost again can be quite exciting! I’m looking forward to going out to more gigs, plays and so on in the evenings, and I’ve just added myself to Manchester on Upcoming to try and find out about the geek events that take place here. If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below.
That’s all for now. I’m sure my pace of blogging will pick up again once I start work (and have access to the Internet on a more regular basis again).

Hey Frankie. I’m sure you’ll be well missed at the Science Museum, well I’ll miss you for sure. Good luck with life up norf and I look forward to visiting and seeing the swish flat.
